Joy is mother to Bear.
Joy is our little sister of Bliss. Joy has simply been that, a joy to be around. She easily completed her Rally and CGC titles. She is slightly short but still fits into the standard by 1/4 inch! She weighs about 60 pounds, has moderate bone, and is very well balanced. Joy easily passed her International Therapy Dog test and has completed her hours in 2013 for her Therapy Dog title. Joy lives with our Bravo in the loving home of Tracey Moser, Appleton. She gets to romp with her two other dogs every day! This is what Tracy writes:
"As a vet tech, I have done a lot of research and homework into finding a good quality Golden Retriever breeder that I felt was responsible and was breeding for the proper reasons. After my research, and receiving quite a few recommendations, I decided upon Harvestime Kennel. Deb absolutely knows the breed and is very knowledgeable regarding clearances, health care and training. She is improving the breed with her own kennel lines. So naturally, when I was considering adding another "golden" to my family, I contacted Deb. At that point, I was uncertain if I wanted to start with a puppy, so she mentioned her "adult foster dog program" and asked what I was looking for as far as personality and expectations.
I explained my large involvement with Therapy Dog Programs with my other Golden and Labrador, and would hope my next golden would do therapy work as well. Deb said she had the perfect fit for me; her dog, "Joy"! Of course, I could not wait to meet such a dog with a naturally fitting name! I feel in love with Joy at first sight!! Joy then made an absolutely flawless transition into our home and routine.
Joy is one of the smartest, most versatile dogs I have ever met! Within a couple months of having her, she easily passed her AKC Canine Good Citizen test and Therapy Dog International test the same day! Shortly thereafter she completed her Rally Novice title, all at one year old!
Joy currently travels to three area nursing facilities where she spreads her calm, loving nature. She also regularly visits an Appleton Elementary School and the Girls & Boys Club, where young children learn to love reading, especially when they get to read to a very reassuring fluffy dog, who does not pass judgement when a word is pronounced incorrectly. Joy is such a versatile dog, who has a clear passion for retrieving. She recently began training for hunting this fall. She sure has that "extra gear" and shows it when it comes to scenting and retrieving a bird! It's almost as if she is a different dog. She is as calm as can be while doing therapy work, or sleeping and snoring at your feet, yet can kick it into high gear in the field.
Joy just has that natural ability to adapt to whatever the moment brings and does what is expected of her. She has fun doing anything and seems to walk around with that silly "golden grin" on her face. Not only is she the most obedient and good natured dog that I have ever had the pleasure of working with, she is absolutely the most beautiful dog, no matter what she is doing! Whether it be flawlessly running through a field as though she were flying, or calmly sitting by an elderly person's wheelchair, so patiently, as they take great pleasure in stroking her soft, smooth fur.
Joy certainly lives the good life! On a regular basis we travel to our family cottage. There she can be found jumping off the dock and swimming with the kids out to the swim raft, or just "frog hunting" on land. She is quite the athletic dog. On a daily basis we go for bike rides or travel to High Cliff State park and hike (learning to avoid skunks:).
I am ever so thankful to Deb and Harvestime Kennel for sharing such a wonderful friend who is a true part of our family. Joy is a fabulous example of the standard of golden retrievers that Harvestime Kennels produces and strives for: absolute perfection in my eyes!"
